📣Y’all, Instagram and the game of learning fun ways to play with it kept me entertained during the majority of the pandemic and last year. I’m in a different space, have different priorities and am having a lot more fun... (thank goodness for vaccines!!)

So I’m out! Please stay in touch with me professionally on LinkedIn!

✊🏾✊🏿✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 I whole heartedly believe "isms" in the workplace not only harm a person and limit a business, but that they exacerbate workplace injuries. I am proud to work for an employer who proudly posts this message for all to see upon entering a building.

We have a long way to go, and small steps like this one get us moving.❤️

👋🏾 Happy Thursday, Safety Pros! We're almost through this week and idk about you, but it's been a hard one for me. Back to back mass shootings have affected my resilience. 😔 When I start to lose my focus, I find myself scouring back through my journal: what's my purpose? Where's my "True North"? 🧭

And just like we need to do this for ourselves sometimes, we need to make sure we've given our teams the same guidance and direction for when they get lost or are working outside of their resiliency zone. Today's management tip comes from Julie Zhao and it couldn't resonate with me more.

👁️🌄🧭 Be clear with your vision, expectations and inspiration... For yourself, your teams, your sites and the people we work every day to keep safe.

Hugs.

Just a quick note today, Safety Pros! I hope you are able to spend time with your loved ones today. Enjoy it! ...

Hey Safety Pros! Pop quiz! 🚨⚡

Do you know what the minimum height is before you can consider something a trip hazard? And by that, I mean you're walking along and you come across a crack in your sidewalk. There is a height difference between one slab and the next. What is the minimum difference in height that would be considered a trip hazard? Answer below 👇🏽!

Keepin' those skills fresh!

Hey there, Safety Pros... Did you think I'd forget #BlackHistoryMonth?

HA. Think again.

What does this have to do with being a safety professional? What does it have to do with the people we protect every day? "Health inequity & health disparities" are common terms in the world of public health. How is it that our field, a step-child of public health in its truest form, completely ignores these disparities? I've decided it's the "white" elephant in the room. (😂 - see what I did there?)

I challenge you to ponder how "isms" (race, gender, orientation, ability, etc.) show up in your workplace, and how they contribute to the hazards our coworkers may face every day.

In the meantime, I'm going to be #CelebratingBlackJoy all month. Join me!

"We really do have to make sure that a broader, richer, what I might call an anti-racist basis for learning American history be taught to every child in this country," Dr. Muhammad said. "And especially white children."

Dr. Muhammed, a professor of history, race, and policy [at Harvard Kennedy School], says you can't actually understand the country's politics, its wealth, and the fragility of its democracy if you don't acknowledge the global footprint of Black people.

"This is our history," he said. "This is the world we made together."

After this year of social isolation, and especially after this first week going virtual, I want to take a quick moment to be thankful for my furry fam. We have 5 (yes, 5...) pets. (Four felt reasonable, but trust. Five does not. 🤪) I've been a bit lonely #wfh this first week, which I anticipated happening but not quite this fast😅. Looking forward to learning how to feel connected while being even more physically separated from folks. In the meantime...

This guy is my biggest snuggler, and I love hanging out with him any day of the week, but especially Sundays when we can guiltlessly roll around in the grass, go for walks in the park and cuddle up for a snooze. Can't imagine life without ya, Karsa Bear.

Who have been your lifesavers during the pandemic?
...

🙋🏾 Who feels this one!?

I'm pretty sure that my team would roll their eyes at me cause despite my best intentions... sometimes this is #reallifetho 😅

Also. We made it to Friday. Please act accordingly. 🍷

I am so happy to share that I've joined Amazon's EHS Launch Operations team as a Program Manager.

"Cool, Anupama! ... What does that even mean?"

Excellent question, Safety Pros. ;-). It means that I will support about a dozen building launches this year. My specific role is to help each site EHS team get set up for success. I will support each site from about 4-6 months ahead of time (when teams are put together/hired) through the first several months after launch. I will be responsible for ensuring each team has a successful onboarding & training experience. I will also support EHS policy and procedure implementation, setting them up for long-term success and strong safety cultures in each of their buildings.

There are so many positives to this role, and it is such a good fit for me. I expect to learn something every day and be able to do the things I love: problem solve, remove barriers, and support new & emerging EHS professionals as they begin their respective journeys at Amazon.

Having launched a new building in pre-Amazon life, I would have cherished to have the kind of support I'm going to be able to offer folks.

Say what you will about Amazon. I love it here.

Soooo excited to be starting a new role this week!! I'll tell you more about that tomorrow, but here's my new home office set up! 😁😁

Do y'all have home offices? Any tips for a first time virtual EHS pro?

Hey there, Safety Pros! HAPPY NEW YEAR! I know it's been a HOT minute since I posted... the end of 2020 got a little wild there.
.
.
.
But we made it! Peak is behind us, and we're moving forward! Still wrapping my brain around what 2021 looks like. The challenges, the ups, the downs, the [hopeful] aftermath of the pandemic, and all of the changes that may come from it. A friend of mine described some of the departments at her company as "transforming" from the pandemic, and others wanting to "go back to what it used to be." I thought this was an important thing to keep in mind as we move into this next year.

Are you doing strategic planning? Putting together plans for the year? How are you TRANSFORMING your buildings? companies? teams?

I'm not quite sure how IG fits into my transformation this year, either, but I'll be sure to keep you updated. 😉

The one thing that's helped me the most? I keep my inbox closed and turn off all email notifications. I don't let email run my day, I choose when to look at my email - three times a day, typically.

Also, closing down instant messaging apps so I can focus for a couple hours each day.
